Defense Associates
Defense Associates is the Connecticut base of operations for Chuck Taylor's American Small Arms Acadamy (ASAA) and Massad Ayoob's Lethal Force Institute.

Chuck Taylor is based in Prescott, Arizona, but schedules several appearances each year in Connecticut. He is aided in his instruction by his local coordinator, Frank Cornwall. If you want to learn to shoot effectively, Taylor's course is for you. His techniques have a proven record of real-world application; training is made realistically challenging by the application of time constraints. To be a Taylor graduate, you have to pass the test at the end of the course!

Massad Ayoob's Lethal Force Institute (LFI) is well known and esteeemed among defensive shooters. Ayoob is based in New Hampshire but travels to Connecticut to accommodate shooters in our area. All levels of LFI are offered at various times throughout the year.

International Defensive Pistol Association
Promotes "defensive pistol" as a sport that gives excellent practice in simulated "real world" self-defense scenarios. Shooters competing in Defensive Pistol events are required to use practical handguns and holsters that are truly suitable for self-defense use. No "competition only" equipment is permitted in Defensive Pistol matches since the main goal is to test the skill and ability of an individual, not his or her equipment, budget, or gamesmanship. Many Gunsafe members participate in IDPA matches held at Wolf's Indoor Range (Bristol) and the Smith & Wesson range (Springfield, Mass.)

Second Amendment: Law and history

A Right of the People
Superb article explaining the Second Amendment and how it guarantees a right to every individual citizen. The author, a professor at UCLA Law School, presented the material as testimony to a Congressional subcommittee in 1998. As he states in the article, when he began his research he was not particularly "pro-gun," and he did not believe the Second Amendment guaranteed a right to individual citizens. The article is easy to follow and makes a good starting point for anyone interested in the Second Amendment. Reprinted here with the author's generous permission.

Second Amendment Law Library
Dozens of authoritative articles. Most were written for attorneys and may be too technical for some readers, but you never know until you try.
